Betsey Johnson was born 10 August 1942 Wethersfield, Connecticut, U.S. She married John Cale in 1968 and also divorced him less than a year later, they have one child together named Lulu. In 2006 Lulu gave birth to he first daughter Layla. In 2002 Betsey was diagnosed with breast Cancer.
In 1987, Betsey Johnson started her own fashion line. Her second line of clothing that she created did not sell near as well as she was hoping for and she was left with 3,000 peices of spring peices and no funds to stage a 1981 fashion show. As of 2011, she has more tha 65 stores world wide.
She once described her style as a formula: "Take a leotard and add a skirt."
